Upon closing Malt Vault in the wee hours of the morning on 16 March 2011 at the end of its final evening of business in the basement of Screening Room; the man behind Malt Vault [Mike Soldner] got busy, busy, busy building his latest vision; an intimate bar to rival the best of them.
That vision is now a reality. It is B28.
Stocked with an initial portfolio of 100 unique single cask single malt Scotch whiskies as well as Mike's personal selection of the best official distillery releases available today, B28 is still a whisky bar at its core. However, Mike's primary aim this time around was not only to build one of the best whisky bars in Singapore, but in fact one of the best bars in Singapore and in his effort to achieve this goal he has collaborated with some of the best brains in the business. Mr. Bruno Vaillant, connoisseur and purveyor of fine wines, personally created the B28 wine list, which includes 26 exquisite wines and champagnes from Europe, Australasia and the United States. International beer judge, Mr. Charles Guerrier, selected a dozen delicious craft beers and ales made in different styles from microbreweries around the world. Mr. Oudin Christophe chose the crystal glassware for the bar, all Schott Zwiesel. And finally, Singapore's number one female mixologist, Miss Aubrey Sim not only engineered the bar's extensive offering of classic cocktails, but agreed to join B28 full time as lead bartender to shake, stir, muddle, strain and pour what we're confident you will agree are among the finest cocktails in the city. Service will continue to be managed by the charming Miss Deidre Pereira.
In addition to an absolutely first rate beverage offering, B28 features an upright piano and drum kit for its weekly live jazz performances, a whisky education center, a private membership program, original jazz poster art, a unique bar design, luxurious seating, free WIFI, and direct street access with covered and lit outdoor seating for smokers. Mike's personal collection of cigars is also available to friendly aficionados upon request.
B28 opened quietly and without fanfare at 5 o' clock on the evening of Friday, 28 May. It is located in the lower ground level of The Club Hotel, No. 28 Ann Siang Road. Business hours are Tuesday - Saturday [on Monday the bar is open to Members Only] from 5pm - 2am and dress code is Smart Casual. B28 is closed on Sunday.
